Production

Production was instrumental to our integration of technologies within this project. We used a range of hardware, software and online to finalise this project and complete it with perfection. Production involved primarily hardware; the correct utilisation of professional cameras, documenting behind the scenes footage and photography, collating film stills and understanding of equipment.

We used a professional camera, more specifically the ‘Black Magic 4k mini-ursa’ that was vital to my development regarding my final opening sequence. On our shoot day, we arrived on location with all equipment / hardware required to construct a satisfactory opening sequence. We began unpacking the equipment, including the ‘Vinten tripod’, the ‘Lexar Pro memory card’ and the ‘Sennheiser Shotgun microphone’. We then established a sector of our location that was suitable for filming, we then expanded the tripod to the appropriate level to acquire the correct shot, we then adjusted for exposure by tampering with the iris of the camera and meddling with the aperture. We then adjusted the spirit level to ensure we could acquire the correct frame and composition. After doing so, we attached the tripod plate to the bottom of the camera and secured it into the tripod. Having done so, we then ensured the LXR cable was attached to the microphone and inputted it into ‘audio input one’ acquired by the camera itself. Throughout the process, we checked the LED sound screen levels to ensure no sound was peaking throughout shooting our sequence. We then adjusted the white balance to create a warmer tone as the colouration was cold being outdoors in early hours of the morning.

Prior to our shoot day, I felt it would be appropriate to gather imagery for film stills. This was integral to my planning regarding my final opening sequence. I assumed constructing ‘film posters’ would be an upcoming task, therefore I bought my personal camera with my on the shoot day. I removed the lens cap from my camera and began altering the aperture and shutter speed to ensure all imagery was composed and shot correctly and suitably for posters and behind the scenes photography. I then began adjusting the exposure, which was dictated by which sector of the location we were shooting in and if it acquired lowkey lighting (shade) or high key lighting (brightly lit subjects). I then began taking photographs using ‘rule of thirds’ and ‘depth of field’ to beautifully compose shots of the opening sequence and behind the scenes content.

Prior to the shoot day, I acknowledged that a ‘behind the scenes’ video would be a requirement for this project and a productive element to integrating technologies. This was crucial to my development in planning regarding my final opening sequence. The night before the shoot day, I began collecting photo evidence of costuming arriving, screenshots from group chats discussing preparation in collaboration and fake blood / professional makeup kits. We then arrived at the location of the shoot and I began taking videos of our group using ‘call outs’, operating the camera, composing frames, gathering props, applying makeup to actresses and organising the shooting schedule. This all contributed to the behind the scenes content / footage and overall benefited the development of my final opening sequence.

Online

'WhatsApp'

On the shoot day, communication was key to our success in maintaining a substantial flow onset. Using WhatsApp was a form of communication was essential to our development in planning regarding our final opening sequence. When a member of the group would return to the props station whilst on location, we would message the individual via WhatsApp to acknowledge what was needed to progress with the scene we were currently working on. This became a crucial element to our capability onset and overall contributed heavily to our final opening sequence.

'Snapchat'

On the shoot day, another form of communication we used was Snapchat. This benefited us profoundly on the shoot day, as Snapchat is similar to WhatsApp however with more specification and shortcuts which enabled an easier flow regarding integration of technology. This impacted our final opening sequence and our ability to communicate in the same ways WhatsApp did.

Software

'Word'

Prior to the shoot day, we were asked to create a shooting schedule. However, on the shoot day we had to make alterations to the shooting schedule due to actor’s time limitations regarding commitments. We were able to alter the shooting schedule with the help of Word, which heavily impacted the success of our final opening sequence.

On the shoot day, we took breaks in between filming which gave crew members / actors the opportunity to wind down and relax, recuperating and preparing for the next scene. During my time, I would put on my headphones and listen to Apple Music songs, a software that provides music of all genres to help you relax in working circumstances. This benefited the success of my final sequence, as I felt at ease when filming and in my breaks, contributing to the success regarding shots acquired and agility onset.
